Louis Theroux: Transgender Kids

Louis Theroux travels to San Francisco where a group of pioneering medical professionals help children who say they were born in the wrong body transition from boy to girl or girl to boy at ever younger ages.

At┬áthe Child and Adolescent Gender Center at UCSF Hospital Louis meets children who have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Louis is told that children as young as three can show signs of rejecting the gender they were assigned at birth, leaving parents with a difficult dilemma – do they start transitioning a child who is still developing their own identity or do they wait and risk making the change once their body has gone through the transformations of puberty?

It is a decision that can be the start of a complex series of medical interventions, from puberty blockers to hormone replacement therapy and eventually gender reassignment surgery. Louis spends time with children and their families as they negotiate their way along this life-changing journey.

The figures for trans youth attempting suicide range from a low of 41% to a high of 65%. With family support that figure drops to about 4%. These parents are to be commended for letting their children be who they are, rather than who society wants them to be.

Not sure about this. I believe teaching children to be mentally and emotionally strong is better. Children do not know what gender they are at such young ages. Leave that for when they are old enough to make such decisions.

Of course since you are aware of every single child ever, maybe you could explain this to me, of lesser mind?

Get over yourself buddy. Should stop you in your tracks when you hear about the suicide rates. What kid can make the decision to take their life when they’re obviously not old enough to understand the concept of gender?

Your comments reads like an enabler. I wish you could be prevented from ever having children, because they would surely be weak and a burden on society.

        • Ben

Mate gotta tell you you’re weak and a burden to my society.

Can’t believe you can act like this when there are little kids – Little six year olds – who barely even know their times tables and are committing suicide.

Where do you get off, little child-hating prick?
